The End is Near

School has ended and I survived. Through constant strategic battles with my Arch-Nemesis, through the menopausal temperature swings of the school's climate control system, through teacher conferences and getting yelled at by students to whom I gave a 69.4 (it just felt so right), and through basically an entire year that has made me question my sanity to actually be a teacher, I have survived.

There were heavy casualties this year. Here are some statistics:
Detentions served by my Arch-Nemes: 23.
Teachers resigning from the high school: 25 (that's 54%).
Principals/Assistant Principals we have been through: 2 principals/3 asst. princ.
Money I spent on Chocolate for myself and my neighboring teachers: $64.25.
Times I smelled illegal drugs on my students: 179.

Tomorrow is my last day at BHS, and despite the rollercoaster that it has been, it is a little sad. My dark, dusty, dungeon-like classroom with the doors that never lock has been a second home to me. I mean, with a couple of throw pillows and a new paint job, it might even have been comfortable. Teachers to whom I have never spoken are friendly now (probably because they are all leaving). But for now, I have the whole summer in front of me, and it promises to be fun.
